We have a surgical-grade room that has a germicidal UV door barrier. By creating a curtain of UV rays, these fixtures provide effective control of airborne microbes between areas and kill micro bacteria as you walk through them. All walls and floors are tiles that are cleaned and sanitized twice daily. The nursery is on a completely separate ductless HVAC system in which the air is filtered, and UV dosed. All water is two-staged media filtered and UV filtered. All containers and utensils are cleaned in a commercial dishwasher at 170 degrees. All syringes used for hand feeding are used for one bird, and two solutions cleaned and sanitized. Each bird is fed on an individual sterile pad and a washable vessel sink to avoid cross-contamination. All brooders are new and have back up temperature monitoring and alarms.
Our entire facility has a generator back up system in the event of a power loss. Our staff is veterinary trained and perform vein blood draws, CBC counts, crop evacuations, microchip ID implants, sutures, IV hydration, lab testing, etc. Our nursery is closed to the public, but there is a public viewing window. We test our birds for PBFD Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease, Chlamydia psittaci – also referred to as Psittacosis, Polyomavirus, and Bornavirus or Borna disease virus (BDV). We also vaccinate for Polyomavirus.
